Bremen HS VFW Voice of Democracy Winners
This year's theme was "American History: Our Hope for the Future."

Bremen High School was honored to host Midlothian VFW President Jillian Jan, and members Dan Hansen and Jon Jans at April’s Honors Assembly to present the 2018 Voices of Democracy Essay Contest Winners. Every fall, leaders from the Midlothian VFW Post, invite Bremen students to participate in an audio essay contest. Since 1947, the Voice of Democracy has been the VFW’s premier scholarship program. Each year, nearly 40,000 high school students compete for more than $2 million in scholarships and incentives. Students compete by writing and recording an audio essay on an annual patriotic theme. This year’s theme was “American History: Our Hope for the Future.” Auxiliary President Jillian Jans presented the awards alongside VFW Post 2580 members Dan Hansen and Jon Jans. Winners at the post level were as follows: Ist Place- Alyssa Ceballos, 2nd Place- Jesus Anguiano, Honorable Mention- Zoe Gurick & Anthony Cardinal. Alyssa Ceballos went on to finish 2nd for the 16th District of Illinois, with Jesus Anguiano earning an honorable mention.
