Bremen HS Welcomes Markham Bookmobile to 'Card' Their Students

Annual event gives students an opportunity to sign up for a library card

Recently, Bremen High School had a special visit from the Markham Bookmobile! The Markham Public Library serves patrons from both Markham and Posen. Students from these communities who are sixteen and older had the opportunity to board the bookmobile, apply for and receive library cards!

“This is an annual event that we look forward to every fall,” said Bremen High School Media Specialist Kelly Sala.

Several of Bremen’s teachers joined in on the excitement. Mrs. Gina Arguelles, Spanish teacher at Bremen, offered students extra credit for “getting carded.” A sophomore in her class, Martin Lee, got his card Friday from the bookmobile. He was very excited and made sure he showed her the card before he left school that day. “I even checked out a book from the bookmobile and read it. I don’t usually do extra reading!” exclaimed Lee.

One of the “fun facts” that students learned as they boarded the Markham Bookmobile is that once a public library card is established it can be used at most libraries across the State of Illinois. Students were excited to hear they can visit Markham, but also other libraries in the state! “We truly believe that everyone should own a library card! It really is a passport to the world!” exclaimed Sala. To find out more information about the Markham Bookmobile, visit their web site at markhamlibrary.org.
