Bremen HS Well Represented at Publication Conference

Recently, students from the Bremen High School newspaper and yearbook staff attended the annual South Suburban Publication Conference, held at Moraine Valley Community College and sponsored by the Illinois High School Association (IHSA). The conference is an inspirational event for high school newspaper staff, young aspiring journalists, yearbook designers, photojournalists, and news-bloggers alike. The event usually consists of a keynote speaker, followed by sessions offering a plethora of useful topics for young journalists.
Bremen had several presenters at this year’s conference, including: Alumni and Hall of Famer Tony Baranek, sports writer for the SouthtownStar newspaper, as the Keynote Speaker; Brittany Condon, a senior at Bremen and the reigning IHSA State Champion for Journalism Copywriting, hosted a presentation and “Q&A” session for fellow student writers; and Publicity Director and Business Teacher Amber Guzak presented a session on how to write captions on photographs.
“The SSC Publications Conference is always one of my favorite events of the year. It’s refreshing to see young journalists get excited about writing and creating,” said Guzak.
