Bremen HS's 'One Word' Project
Students and staff challenged to select one word to create focus for this school year

What’s your word? If you were walking down the halls of Bremen High School you may hear this question frequently. The hallways and classrooms are filled with “one words”! Based on the book One Word by Jon Gordon, Bremen Principal Dr. Dave Kibelkis, has challenged all students and staff to select a word that will create a laser-like focus throughout the school year and motivate them to be the best person they can be. So far, the One Word Project has been a huge success. Teachers are incorporating the One Word Project into their teaching and are reminding students to live up to their word. Students are also taking turns sharing their word and what it means to them on the morning announcements.
“One Word is a great way to start a conversation with students about more than just classroom material. Students took the time to explain their words and really seemed to appreciate the teachers stepping away from the curriculum and finding out more about them as people. They loved hanging their words around the room,” said teacher Virgil Harris.
