Bremen Inner Beauty Club Hopes to Inspire Young Readers
Bremen High School Inner Beauty Club Hosts Virtual Read Across America Event

On March 3rd at 6:30 pm, Bremen High School Inner Beauty Club Members, Bremen staff and their children, and local community children and their parents gathered around their computer screens for virtual storytelling of "Little Red Riding Hood."
Inner Beauty Club teaches young ladies to be comfortable with who they are and prepares them to take on their future with confidence. Every year, the club does its part to help young students find an interest and joy in reading by participating in the National Read Across America event.
"Studies have shown that students who have difficulty reading in the first-grade are likely to have difficulty reading in the fourth-grade too," says Tamara Pryor, Nurse at Bremen High School and Inner Beauty Club Sponsor. "Fourth-grade students who have difficulty reading are at a higher risk for dropping out of school. It has been shown that literacy levels have a direct correlation to an individual's risk of being incarcerated. Inner Beauty Club hopes it is playing some part in interrupting the school to prison pipeline by participating in this event."

Each school year the club would typically take a field trip to local Central Park Elementary School in Midlothian to read a story. They would also put on a skit for the kindergarten classes.
"It is Inner Beauty's hope that we spark an interest in reading for those students," says Pryor.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the club was not able to participate in an in-person field trip, so they did things a bit differently this year with the virtual storytelling event.
