Chicago Buffalo Soldiers & Troopers Motorcycle Club Present at Bremen HS
Students enjoyed the presentations on the Civil War and World War II
Bremen High School’s Diversity Club was proud to host the Chicago Buffalo Soldiers and Troopers Motorcycle Club on Wednesday, February 22. The Buffalo Soldiers spoke about the inception and history of their regiment. The students really enjoyed the hands-on presentation. Several students were able to try on a Civil War General’s jacket and hat as well as a World War II soldier’s uniform. Freshmen Gisela Castillo was able to try on an actual war helmet during the event, “The helmet was a lot heavier than it looked! I really enjoyed the presentation!” Freshmen Daniel Fus was also able to come up and try on some of the memorabilia. “The General’s jacket was really long and heavy, it surprised me! I really liked the presentations; it was not only educational but also really interesting!” According to the Buffalo Soldiers official web site, “The mission and purpose of the Buffalo Soldiers is to educate the public about the existence of the Ninth and Tenth United States Cavalry, regiments made up of African-Americans. The organization fulfills its mission by making historical and drill team presentations at schools, civic organizations, businesses, and participating in other community celebrations.” For more information about Diversity Club at Bremen High School contact Diversity Club sponsor Ms. Christina Coppage at ccoppage@bhsd228.com.
