AMERICAN IDOL!!! CHRIS MEDINA! Do those names sound familiar?
When Chris Medina auditioned for American Idol in 2011, he shared his voice (singing “Breakeven” by The Script) and his story with Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson, and Steven Tyler. While Chris made the Top 40, he did not make the Top 24, however, he immediately continued his journey through a song written especially for him by Grammy winning producer Rodney Jerkins entitled, What Are Words. Since then Medina has become a singing sensation near and far.
Chris, who is from Oak Forest, is also known for having a big heart. Chevrolet of Homewood sponsored a “Homewood Chevy Cares” online contest and the Ferralez family won a new car. Their daughter had developed Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Thankfully, the young girl is now in remission, but the family lost their car due to mounting medical bills. Chris joined his home town and many others to help this family in need win the much needed new car.

When the contest began there were four others competing to win the car. While Chris was very happy his friends won, he felt it was bittersweet because his heart also went out to those who had not won. They included a young mother in need of a car to help provide for her son, a 20-year-old with hopes to bring great change to her community, a daughter inspired by her mother’s selflessness and contributions to society, and a father with three children whose life was upended by the abrupt departure of his wife.
Chris has started a GoFundMe account called Making it Right: Everyone Wins! If the goal of $40,000 is reached, it will ensure four deserving families receive new cars. If more money is raised, the balance after the new cars will be donated to St. Jude and the Brain Injury Foundation.

The Bremen District 228 family has reached out to Chris Medina to let him know we will do our part to help with this amazing fundraiser for people in need. And… if our students, our staff, and our communities raise a minimum of $4,000 toward this project, Chris has agreed to do a concert for our students. Please make your donation, however large or small, at one of our schools – Bremen, Tinley Park, Hillcrest or Oak Forest - by March 4. We will then make one large donation from the entire district on March 5 to the GoFundMe account.
