Truck Crashes Into Viaduct on Cicero Avenue

Cicero Avenue was closed for a half-mile during the Monday rush hour after a truck crashed into the viaduct north of 159th Street.

OAK FOREST, IL -- A truck struck the Metra Rock Island viaduct between 159th Street and 157th Street in Oak Forest during the early evening rush hour on Monday. The "Total Traffic Chi" Twitter account reported on the crash, which has affected both motorists and Metra users in the area.

The driver of the truck -- Joseph C. Heldt, 57, of Dyer, Indiana -- died as a result of the crash.

Cicero Avenue remained closed between 159th and 157th as of 6 p.m., according to the report. Trains are running about 30 minutes behind schedule as well.

Motorists should use Pulaski or Central as alternates.
