City Names New Deputy Police Chief
In a unanimous vote Tuesday, Jan. 24, city officials named Sgt. Dominic D'Ambrosio as deputy chief of police.

officials approved the promotion of a police sergeant to the deputy chief position that has been vacant since last July at a meeting Tuesday, Jan. 24, but not before a few budget questions.
Sgt. Dominic D'Ambrosio has been with the since 2002. He began as a patrolman until he became the department's first full-time tactical investigator and was promoted to the rank of sargeant in 2009.
But it wasn't D'Ambrosio's qualifications that officials had questions about.

Ald. Dan Ensing (5th Ward) said he had more of a "finance issue."
"The deputy chief position does not exist in the property tax levy anymore," he pointed out. "It was eliminated last year. So, can we finance it? Can we afford it?"

Police Chief Greg Anderson said because D'Ambrosio's sargeant salary already comes from another fund, it's really an increase of about $6,000 that has to come out of that fund.
The subsequent move to promote Officer Tom Lynch Jr. to D'Ambrosio's old position will also be a relatively small increase, Anderson said.
In other business, the City Council also approved a temporary appointment of engineer/paramedic Randy Ulaskas as acting lieutenant/paramedic of the third shift after the former lieutenant retired unexpectedly.
