As the leaves continue to fall, please help the Public Works Department keep city streets clean and free from debris by clearing leaves away from storm drain inlets near your home. Β Remember, do not rake leaves into the street or the parkway as this can result in a fine from the city. Β Street sweepers do not pick up large leaf piles because hidden debris, such as branches, bottles, or metals can damage the equipment. When leaves accumulate in the street they can prevent water from draining properly and create hazardous conditions on roadways for drivers and pedestrians. Β

Street sweepers also might have difficulty removing debris from the streets when there are obstacles such as cars, bicycles, toys, and basketball hoops in the way. Β Or, when vehicles are parked too close together, the sweeper cannot maneuver around them. Β Low-hanging trees and shrubs also can prevent sweepers from cleaning near the curb. Β Β
When raking leaves, please place them in approved containers to be collected by Homewood Disposal on your regularly scheduled garbage day through November 30. Β
