CMS Volleyball Team Served Championship Win

The 8th grade boys volleyball team at Central Middle School captured the SWIC championship for the first time in the team's history.

History was made at Central Middle School as the sixth and seventh grade boys’ volleyball team finished an undefeated season. The season came to a close following the Southwest Interscholastic Conference (SWIC) Tournament on December 9.

The team’s undefeated season handed them the first SWIC championship since the team was formed at Central. In the tournament, the boys came in second, falling to Grissom Middle School, who finished in second place for the regular season.

“Grissom did a great job of setting the ball to the corners and making no mistakes,” said coach Elizabeth Jeziorny. “Our boys came out aggressive and determined to win. The third game was a nail bitter and we ended up losing by only two points.”

The team also placed in the tournament during the 2015 season. This year, however, they worked hard to keep winning during the regular season. According to Jeziorny, the boys were very competitive and always looking to improve.

Jeziorny said the team worked to improve each game by concentrating on an area of weakness identified in the previous game. Practices were spent trying to focus on those skills.

“We are so proud of our student athletes,” said Principal Randy Fortin. “The commitment, dedication and excitement for volleyball really propelled the team this year. We appreciate all the hard work and efforts the team put in to have a successful season. They make each of us proud to be a Twister.”
