College World Series: Clock Chimes on Cinderella Run for Sujka, IU

The Oak Forest freshman went hitless in his 1st full game in the tournament Wednesday, and the Hoosiers were blanked by Oregon State, 1-0.

Oak Forest native Chris Sujka was poised for a big night Wednesday, starting in left field and batting lead off for the first time in the College World Series.

But the Indiana University freshman went 0-for-3, and the Hoosiers ended up on the short end of a pitchers' duel, losing a four-hit shutout to Oregon State, 1-0.

The loss ends IU's College World Series run, which was the first time the 118-year-old program had made it to the postseason tournament in Omaha, NE.

Sujka walked in his first at-bat, but was picked off trying to steal second base for the final out of the first inning. He then collected two strikeouts and flied out to right.

Despite only playing in a single full game (he came in as a pinch hitter in IU's first two games), Sujka and his enthusiasm gained a lot of attention at the CWS. He was the lede in the Omaha World-Herald's column on the Hoosiers, and he was extensively featured on the Indiana University Student Sports Media website.
