Cops Nab Man With Vodka Box Full of Pot and Loaded .38 in Trunk: Prosecutors

Marijuana, gun, scale, and plastic bags found in man's trunk during traffic stop, Oak Forest cops said.

Oak Forest police found a box of marijuana and assorted drug paraphernalia, along with a loaded .38 inside the trunk of a β€œsuspicious” vehicle, prosecutors said.

James Javorsky, 19, was charged with felony possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a firearm without a FOID card.

Police pulled Javorsky’s car over during a traffic stop in the 15200 block of South Cicero Avenue around 6:46 p.m. Nov. 4.

According to the charges, police popped open the trunk of the car and found a Gordon’s vodka box containing 143 grams of cannabis, a digital scale, and a box of plastic sandwich bags.

Also found on the trunk was a loaded .38 caliber handgun. Police said the gun had a loaded magazine with 7 live rounds.

Javorsky allegedly provided a statement to police claiming ownership of the items in the trunk. Police said that Javorsky told them he had just purchased the gun in Indiana and did not have a FOID card.

Javorsky’s attorney told the judge that his client had no prior criminal background and asked for a low bond.

β€œA gun and all that cannabis doesn’t sound make for a good mix, presuming he’s innocent,” Cook County Judge Peter Felice said.

Bail was set at $10,000. Javorsky is also required to submit to drug testing if bonds out.

Javorsky’s next hearing is Nov. 24 in Bridgeview.
