     This time of the year many students who have graduated high school or have been in college are still undecided about their career path. We see it all the time, college students coming to us after their first 2 years because they opted out of going back, and a number of these students end up going into beauty. More then ever parents are very concerned about the cost of education and the suffering job market their graduate will deal with after receiving a degree. That is why so many are filling the ranks at Cosmetology school. This year alone, we have seen a number of college graduates becoming cosmetology students because the lack of opportunity in their chosen profession or just because they needed a change. So much so, that we created a special scholarship just for college graduates since many are caring Hugh student loan debt. USNEWS says Hairdressing is one of the best jobs in 2012. Here at  the John Amico School of Hair Design we have been witness to that since the 1960’s. We have never seen a recession that has stopped our clients from coming to get the services they want.  In many cases clients will take care of their hair and body care above all else. Even in times of an economic down turn clients willingly give up things like dinner and a movie just to be certain they have the money for their salon appointment. In the 60’s and 70’s the objective of hair color was for clients to cover their gray. Today you can turn on the Disney channel and see 12yr old girls with color treated hair. The girls of today change their hair color like their mother’s did lipstick.

Fashion changes and there is a great demand for the consumer to change. We are an instant society of social networking where the newest information takes just a few hours to go across the country, not months as in the past.

Don’t leave out the guys! Yes, they are just as vain and they are also changing to the newest as they say sick, sweet looks. 

WHY IS HAIRDRESSING JOBS SO SECURE?

Once a client likes you and feels comfortable with you they tend to not leave. Clients don’t like to jump from stylist to stylist. They feel secure in going to the same person year after year because they know the stylist will give them exactly what they want.  

The job of a stylists cannot be downsized. You can’t buy a hairstyle on line and they can’t send your work to China. A stylist will always have clients because of the demand to look good. People come in to get done up for interviews, to make sure they look divine for Mr. Right, pretty much anything. This is because they place the importance of beauty over many of their day to day obligations. WHY?  Because when you look good you feel great and it gives clients more self confidence and self esteem. I cannot tell you how many clients have come up to me after a treatment and said ” I just needed to come in…I needed a lift”.

The US NEWS Report talks all about why Hairdressing is such a good profession in terms of using todays psychographics. Psychographics is the study and classification of people according to their attitudes, aspirations, and other psychological criteria, esp. in marketing research. Using this method of research the US NEWS Report concluded when it comes to hair care clients will sever spaghetti instead of steak to be certain they have enough for their salon visit. ‘BEAUTY CHANGES LIVES’. This is a career that enriches your life and the lives of the people you touch.

What the article does not mention is the over 75 types of positions people can obtain  with a beauty license provides. The license allows them to become a salon/spa owner, a independent suit renter, educator of schools and  manufactures, work in a medical spa, own or work for a product distributor or manufacture,  and so much more. A beauty license can open up hundreds of different avenues for people.
