Oct. 4 fitness challenge and silent auction will benefit CreatiVets.

By John McMullen | CrossFit Beverly

CrossFit Beverly, a local CrossFit® affiliate, will be hosting a one-day fitness competition and silent auction to raise money for CreatiVets, a charitable organization dedicated to improving the lives of disabled veterans through the arts, on Saturday Oct.  4, 2014. We will be running partner WODs and Mini WODs throughout the day, beginning at 9:00 a.m., doors open at 8:00 a.m..

To help with the fundraising efforts for donations to CreatiVets we will have tables set up for silent auction items. Some local businesses who have been so kind and generous; Horse Thief Hollow, Running Excels, Everything Relative Salon, Las Fuentas, Kurek Automotive to name a few. We also have donations from Rx bars, Progenex and perhaps our most generous donor, Hylete. A $40 donation will get you an official CrossFit For CreatiVets T-Shirt. Please share with your friends and family as this is open to anyone, CrossFit or not.

Why do we, CrossFit Beverly, want to do this? After experiencing CreatiVets in a fundraiser last year at CrossFit 309 in Peoria IL, along with our profound respect for the service members who serve our country so nobly, we at CrossFit Beverly want to offer a small gesture of charity to help this tremendous cause. Also, as a former commercial photographer, I have a first hand experience how the arts can help soothe the mind and spirit. The emotion of creating something and seeing a project through from nothing to a finished product, whether it be music, sculpture, paint or photo, is so satisfying and gratifying and we want to help in our own little way to raise funds to keep this cause viable.

CreatiVets has been successful in significantly improving the lives of many disabled veterans. The program pairs veterans with professional musicians or artists, and together they create pieces through which the veterans can share their stories. One veteran said about his experience, “I felt better about talking about myself and what happened to me in those few hours than I did talking to a psychiatrist for a whole year. Now whenever I need to be calmed down I can listen to or play the song we wrote, instead of sitting in an office talking to someone who doesn’t understand.”

Would you please consider making a contribution, either merchandise/service or a monetary donation?

CreatiVets is a 501 (c) (3) EIN# 46-3617663 and all donations are tax deductible to the maximum allowed by law

Thank you for your attention and generous contribution.
