CVS Shopper Forced To Drive Armed Man To Harvey: Police Bulletin

A woman told police a man had a gun in his waistband while telling her to drive east on 159th Street from Oak Forest to Harvey.

OAK FOREST, IL — A shopper at the CVS near 159th and Cicero in Oak Forest on Wednesday was forced to drive a suspected shoplifter to Harvey, according to information obtained by law enforcement. The victim, a woman, told Oak Forest police she was approached by a black man inside the store before he entered her car in the parking lot and told her to drive east on 159th Street to Wood Street in Harvey, an all-points bulletin shared with Patch said.

The victim said the man appeared to have a black gun in his waistband while she was driving, the bulletin states.

Police were called to the CVS around 12:30 p.m. by store management regarding a retail theft. A manager on duty told an officer he confronted a man who stole items outside of the store but the man denied stealing anything and got into a white Honda Pilot car in the parking lot before it fled the area.

According to the APB, that same Honda Pilot returned to the parking lot while the officer was still at the scene. That's when the car's driver, the female victim, told police about the man who entered her car and forced her to drive to Harvey.

She said the man ran southbound across 159th Street in Harvey after leaving her car.

The suspect is described in the bulletin as a black man in his 20's with at least shoulder length dreads and a goatee. He was wearing all black, and left behind a number of stolen CVS items in the car.

Oak Forest police did not immediately provide additional information.
