D228, Athletico & Athletic Heart Team Up for Heart Screenings for D228 Students

On Saturday, October 4, Bremen High School District 228 and Athletico will team up with Athletic Heart to offer heart screenings to interested students at Bremen, Tinley Park, Hillcrest, and Oak Forest High Schools for a nominal fee. Screenings will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Oak Forest High School, 15201 S. Central Avenue.

Each year, hundreds of students across the country die from cardiac-related issues. This is an unacceptable and often preventable loss. Athletic Heart works through high schools across the country to inform parents of the importance of pre-screening of athletes to prevent sudden cardiac arrest.

Participating students will receive a 5-minute resting EKG and consultation by a licensed cardiologist. If the cardiologist determines that a more advanced test is necessary, the student may qualify for a 20-minute Echocardiogram. If an issue is discovered, the student is referred to his or her own cardiologist for treatment.

Cost per student:

EKG: $20 if you register online; $25 at the door (cash only)

Full ECHO: Free (if recommended by on-site cardiologist)*

Full ECHO: $75 (optional parent/guardian-requested testing)

*(ECHO exams completed as testing time & staff availability allow)

Students will need to bring completed forms, signed by a parent/guardian the day of testing

Students will not be screened if forms are not completed appropriately

*Priority will be given to students who pre-register for testing services. Walk-ins will be seen as availability allows.
