D228 Libraries Receive Back to Books Library Grant
The $4,999 grant will be divided equally among all four district schools

The libraries of District 228: Bremen, Tinley Park, Hillcrest and Oak Forest were awarded the Back to Books Library Grant for next year! The amount of the award is $4,999, and the money will be split equally among all four schools!
“Funding for this grant was awarded by the Illinois State Library, a Department of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA).” This project will help build the collection of the BHSD 228 libraries to better serve our students, faculty, and community members. The title of the project, “Makerspace: Building With STEM Books,” explains the focus of our project.
The libraries will buy print materials to supplement our library Makerspaces. The objective is to provide non-fiction and fiction books focusing on STEM topics to reach out to all students (grades 9-12). Students will be able to excel in the STEM subjects and delve deeper into concepts not covered in classroom studies. The D228 Library Department will connect the new books to Makerspace, class, and career interests so that STEM is embraced, integrated and applied in the lives of our students, faculty and community members today and in the future.
