D228 Students display artwork at Museum of Science and Industry
Hillcrest, Bremen High School Students are displaying art at the Museum for the Black Creativity Juried Art Exhibit.

Seven Bremen High School District 228 student artists currently have artwork on display in the Black Creativity Juried Art Exhibition at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. This amazing opportunity was presented to six Hillcrest High School students and one Bremen High School student.
Our students are Jaylen Brandon, Diamond Macklin, Gabrylle Briscoe, Albert Blake, Danielle Thompson, Najah Muhammad (Hillcrest), and Cahnani Thomas (Bremen).
According to the museum, the exhibit aims to showcase dynamic works from both professional and amateur African American artists from around the country. It is the longest-running African American exhibit to be displayed at the Museum since 1970. The museum states that the exhibit features paintings, drawings, fine art prints, sculpture, mixed-media, ceramics, and photography by African Americans, including youth artists between the ages of 14 and 17.

“I encourage my students every year to participate in this exhibit, specifically for the experience. Aside from having their work on display in a museum setting, they participate in the prepping activities,” said Jamilah Adebesin Mason, Fine Arts teacher at Hillcrest High School. “They have to apply to exhibit, frame their work, and set a value for their pieces. This particular activity gives the students college and career knowledge.”
The exhibit is free with regular admission at the Museum of Science and Industry and will run through April 23, 2023. Learn more about the exhibit and see student artwork by visiting the museum website.
