D228 Students Learn at the Vietnam Moving Wall Exhibit in Hazel Crest

The Village of Hazel Crest displayed the Vietnam Moving Wall from May 6-9

Nearly 500 American History students in Bremen High School District 228 recently attended the Vietnam Moving Wall exhibit in Hazel Crest, Illinois. The Village of Hazel Crest was chosen to display the exhibit of the Vietnam Moving Wall from May 6-9.

An opening ceremony took place on May 7 that included guest speakers, presentations of wreaths, lapel pins and certificates. Our very own Hillcrest High School music department provided the national anthem and other special songs.

Colin Milton, the D228 Social Studies Department Supervisor, served on the planning committee for this event and worked with his teachers to be sure that D228 students had the opportunity to travel to Hazel Crest to view the wall.

The Vietnam Moving Wall is a smaller version of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C. It stands as a reminder of the sacrifices made during the Vietnam War, and its purpose is to help heal and rekindle friendships, and to provide people the opportunity to visit loved ones in their home town who otherwise may not be able to make the trip to Washington.
