D228 students receive Evans Scholarship: A full housing, tuition grant
The Evans Scholarship is valued at more than $125,000 over four years.
MIDLOTHIAN, IL - Five Bremen High School District 228 students are among 70 recipients of the Evans Scholarship- a full housing and tuition college grant offered to golf caddies!
Oak Forest's Christopher Smith, Madison Levsay, Morgan Nielsen, and Katherine Everitt, along with Bremen's Nelly Yspango, will begin college in fall 2023 as Evans Scholars, with awarded universities to be finalized by April 1.
The Western Golf Association, headquartered in Glenview, Illinois, has supported the Chick Evans Scholarship Program through the Evans Scholars Foundation since 1930. Known as one of golf’s favorite charities, it is the nation’s largest scholarship program for caddies.

Currently, a record 1,100 caddies are enrolled at 22 universities across the nation as Evans Scholars, and more than 11,800 caddies have graduated as Evans Scholars since the program was founded by famed Chicago amateur golfer Charles “Chick” Evans Jr.
“Each student has demonstrated excellence in the classroom, on the golf course and in their communities,” said WGA Chairman Joe Desch. “We are thrilled to welcome them to what will be an exceptional class of New Scholars from across the nation.”

“These young students represent what our Program has been about since 1930,” said WGA President and CEO John Kaczkowski. “We are proud to welcome them to the Evans Scholars family.”

Bremen High School District 228 is located in the southwest suburbs of Chicago and serves the communities of Midlothian, Posen, Tinley Park, Markham, Hazel Crest, Country Club Hills and Oak Forest. District 228 serves over 5,000 students and employs 800 full and part-time staff members. Bremen High School, in Midlothian, opened its doors to students in September of 1953. Since then, District 228 opened three additional schools. Tinley Park High School opened in 1961; Hillcrest High School, in Country Club Hills, opened in 1967; and Oak Forest High School opened in 1970.
