District 142’s Jack Hille Middle School 7th & 8th Grade Spelling Team successfully competed in the South Suburban Junior High School Conference’s Annual Spelling Bee on February 4, 2015. Out of the six students representing District 142, three achieved winning placement:
· Eighth-grader, Jack P., placed 1st out of 30 students. Winning word: “glucose”
· Eighth- grader, Mason W., placed 2nd out of 30 students.

Coached by Hille Middle School Teacher, Denos Myrmingos, the students worked diligently for over a month to prepare for the Spelling Bee. All six students were acknowledged at the February 17, 2015 Forest Ridge District 142 Board of Education meeting and received Certificates of Achievement.
District 142’s Hille Middle School Team competed against nine other schools in the Conference: Arbor Park Middle School, Oak Forest; Central Park School, Midlothian; Finley Junior High School, Chicago Ridge; Hamlin Upper Grade Center, Alsip; Independence Junior High School, Palos Heights; Kolmar School, Crestwood; Prairie Junior High School, Alsip; Wilkins Junior High School, Justice; and Worth Junior High School, Worth. Each school in the Conference chooses three seventh grade and three eighth grade students to compete in the Spelling Bee. The annual event was held this year at Worth Junior High School, Worth, Illinois, under the direction of Mr. Joe Zampillo, Principal and Ms. Colleen DeGonia, Spelling Moderator.
