District 228 Board Members Seek Another Term

Four incumbents want to keep their seats and continue showing their "passionate confidence."

Four members of the District 228 Board of Education have formed β€œGreat Slate for 228” and are seeking re-election on April 7. District 228 comprises four high schools (Bremen, Tinley Park, Hillcrest, Oak Forest) and serves roughly 5,400 students from seven communities.

The board members are Pastor David Mensing, William β€œBill” Browne, Leslie Jones, and John Kirkton. All are long-time residents of District 228 who are committed to providing the very best public education possible, while exercising wise stewardship of the taxpayers’ dollars.

Mensing, who is the pastor of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oak Forest, has 25 years of teaching experience. He joined the Board in 2006 and is currently the board’s secretary. Browne, who works as the Director of Veterans Affairs for Cook County, was first elected to the board in 2007. He was formerly the Village President of Hazel Crest. Jones was appointed to the board nearly 2 years ago. She has been active in community activities, including lengthy service with the Life Enrichment and Development Center. Kirkton is a corporate manager, who was elected to the Board in 2007. He is currently the Board’s president, and brings a business background and law degree to the mix.

The slate stresses its β€œpassionate confidence” in District 228.

β€œOur buildings are safe and well-maintained, the most recent year-over-year District expenses increased only 1.4% without negatively impacting class size or cutting course offerings, and we are currently implementing numerous initiatives to improve student achievement, said Mensing.
