Students enrolled in baking classes throughout Bremen School District 228 recently competed in a Cupcake Wars competition. Students started the competition by researching and choosing a homemade frosting and cupcake recipe to create in class. Students plan exactly how they will execute their cupcakes in a two class period time frame. The first round of the competition is against their fellow classmates. The winners then compete against the winners from the other baking classes at their home schools. The winning teams from Tinley Park, Bremen, Hillcrest, and Oak Forest High Schools face off at the District 228 Cupcake Wars Competition. Students are judged on taste, appearance, teamwork, safety/sanitation, creativity, and professionalism. This year, Bremen and Tinley Park tied for first place followed by Hillcrest, and then Oak Forest. Ms. O’Connor noted, “This is one of my favorite student competitions! Students get very competitive in selecting and creating the absolute best cupcake to be judged. At our district competition, it was very apparent all of the time and effort all four schools put into their final creations.”
