District 228 Reminds Taxpayers QSCB will Provide Property Tax Savings
The District's annual bond and interest fund tax levy will decrease by approximately $5 million
Phase I of construction has started in District 228 at Bremen, Tinley Park, Hillcrest and Oak Forest High Schools. Currently, the fields are being prepared to resolve drainage issues before the installation of the artificial turf. While the excitement is building as the seven-year construction process begins, the District wants to remind taxpayers that the renovations and improvements will not result in an increase in property taxes.
The District’s annual bond and interest fund tax levy will decrease by approximately $5 million. This means the District 228 portion of property taxes for a home valued at $100,000 are estimated to decrease by $115, for a home valued at $150,000 the decrease would be $170, and for a home valued at $200,000 the decrease would be $230.
In addition to reducing the annual tax burden for taxpayers, it will strengthen the District’s financial condition to better address expected Statewide funding challenges, delay the need to borrow funds to address operational deficits, create greater ability to use fund balance reserves to pay for non-qualified capital expenses such as the artificial turf fields, and greatly improve District facilities for generations of District 228 students.
