District 228 Special Olympics Team Competes Spring Games
Four athletes advancing to State competition
On Saturday, May 6, 2017, Special Olympics held their annual Area 7 Spring Games at Richard’s High School in Oak Lawn, IL. District 228’s EXCEL Program had twelve student-athletes compete. Team Braves participated in the male and female 50 meter dash as well as the male and female softball throw. Out of the 12 Team Braves competitors, four athletes qualified for five events in Special Olympics’ State Finals and will be competing at Illinois State University on June 10, 2017. This is the second year Team Braves have competed in Special Olympics and the first year for student-athletes to qualify for state. Coach Meredith Madden and Coach Rachel Wnenk are beyond excited and proud of each and every athlete for their dedication, positivity, and teamwork! Team Bremen is composed of the following students: Andrew Suett, Tommy Black, Bob Campbell, Jamira Bohanan, Hector Martinez, Andrew Donley, Sean Juppe, Alberto Soto, Deja Voss, Vincent Vance, Billy Davis, and Jacob Fenlon-Panozzo. The athletes advancing to state are Jamira Bohanan, Hector Martinez, Alberto Soto and Deja Voss. “We would like to thank our teaching intern, Bremen High School junior, Hope Porter who assisted us at the games and helped make the day extra special for our kids,” said Coach Meredith Madden.
