District 228 Students to Participate in The Miracle Minute
This event creates a great community service project for each school

Students from all four high schools in District 228 will be participating in Miracle Minute fundraisers on March 8. The purpose of this event is to create a great community service project at each school, provide assistance for a cause that is at the hearts of students whether they are Braves, Titans, Hawks or Bengals, and to earn points for the Spirit Showdown competition, which takes place on March 9.
The Miracle Minute at each school will be as follows: St. Baldrick’s Foundation for childhood cancer in memory of fellow student Paola Zambrano at Bremen High School, Special Olympics at Tinley Park High School, American Cancer Society in memory of District Fine Arts Supervisor Keith Anderson at Hillcrest High School, and Together We Cope at Oak Forest High School.
Bremen High School's NHS students recently learned about this type of fundraiser at a LEADS conference in Washington DC. A family's home in a rural community had burned to the ground and the students wanted to do something to help. They decided on a Miracle Minute. The event was promoted 7-10 days in advance by asking students to bring their loose change to school on a specific date. At a specific time, for one minute, students went into the halls to make their donations into bags carried by the fundraising students. A large amount of money, mostly in change, was collected in just one minute.
