Do you see fireworks when you help family members?

It's fireworks time again, that time of year when everyone is ready to see all the lights and explosions. People can’t wait to get together with the family. Or perhaps you are already seeing fireworks in your family?

Sometimes when family members try to help relatives with downsizing, relocation or hoarding situations, emotions become a factor. Temper flare, sparks fly, and there are fireworks between family members.

Downsizing can cause a lot of stress between parents and their adult children.  Often, the parents do not want to move. Meanwhile, their kids just want to keep their parents safe. It is a fine line to walk, and sometimes it is better to have a outside person as the mediator. This way you save the family dynamics.

Dealing with a relative who may have a tendency to hoard things is another area that can create fireworks between you and your loved one. During these stressful times, consider hiring someone who is not emotionally attached to the situation, such as a professional organizer. She can put a different spin on the situation, and help create the results you both want.
