Elective Fair Kicks Off Course Selection at Oak Forest HS

Students discovered an abundance of elective courses offered

Oak Forest High School senior John Gleason talks to junior Anthony Stein-Rojas about the District 228 TV Production class, taught by Bremen High School teacher Michael Lynch. Gleason is convincing Stein-Rojas to take the class during the Oak Forest High School elective fair. At the elective fair, students had a chance to preview elective classes for the next school year. Elective classes set up booths and students were able to talk to the teachers who teach the elective classes and students who have taken the elective classes, in order to get a better idea of the electives that he or she wants to take for the next school year.

Gleason has been experiencing an elective class by taking the TV Production class this year which he really likes. “I like the creative freedom of the class and the hands-on experience,” he said.

Gleason’s family has always liked the movies, and several family members work in the movie industry. As a result, Gleason was already looking at something in the movie industry for a career. However, the experience he earned in the TV Production class has really honed his interest in doing something with movies or production. “The idea of making [movies] is incredible,” he said. He plans to look into enrolling in a college in which he can major in something related to filmmaking or production.
