Hmmmm What will I need for my move?

Last week I wrote about the frustrations of packing and moving. This week I want to give you tips, and list the supplies you will need to pack and close up your home.

Let’s start with supplies.  We now use two types of packing paper and no bubble wrap.  Why, you ask? I’ll let you in on the secret. Bubble wrap can snap and break items with tiny delicate pieces. Instead use tissue paper for delicate items, and packing paper for all other items. When wrapping vases or items with stems such as wine glasses, you want to wrap so that you cannot feel the edges of the stems.

When it comes to boxes, small is the appropriate size 80 percent of the time. Remember, the heavier the box, the more likely that an injury may occur. Medium boxes should be used for pots and pans, kitchen appliances, and packing up linen closets. Save large boxes for lampshades, vases, and blankets.

Use Sharpie markers to label boxes. Put all liquid items from bathrooms, small items from nightstands, and small office supply items from desks into appropriate-size Ziploc bags for easy and safe transportation.  Saran wrap is great to wrap loose items like CDs, silverware trays, or a desk tray.  You will want a box cutter knife when it comes time to unpack all those boxes.

Finally, remember to contact all the businesses that will need to know your new address: banks, insurance companies, credit card companies, clubs, accountant, lawyer, utility and refuse companies, and newspapers and magazines, to name a few.
