Illinois' 25 Most Dangerous Cities
Using 2013 violent crime statistics, Law Street Media's second annual analysis ranks states and cities from most to least dangerous.

Illinois had a rate of 380 violent crimes per 100,000 people in 2013, making it the 20th most dangerous state in the union.
While many would likely point to Chicago as the culprit, the Windy City didn’t receive a ranking because of under-reported data. Additionally, the city’s data collection methodology for the offense of rape does not comply with the national Uniform Crime Report guidelines. The FBI classifies murder, rape, aggravated assault and robbery as violent crimes.
Using this methodology, these are Illinois’ 25 most dangerous cities. You can view the violent crime rate for each, along with the number of murders in 2013. A data table accompanies the list with all 84 Illinois cities that were ranked, as well as the top 10 safest and most dangerous states.
