Indiana Man Caught With Loaded Guns in Pants: Prosecutor

Cook County Sheriff's police find loaded Derringer and Smith and Wesson in man's pants, cocaine, during traffic stop.

A 64-year-old Indiana man was arrested on gun charges when police found a loaded Derringer and Smith-Wesson in his car during a traffic stop, prosecutors said in court Wednesday.

Jimmie Jacobs was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, armed violence and possession of a controlled substance.

Officers pulled Jacobs over on Jan. 12 for not signaling on a right turn and a burned out reflector light in unincorporated Dolton, the prosecutor said.

Jacobs allegedly admitted to having weapons in the car, where sheriff’s police found a Smith and Wesson gun tucked in the the waistband of his pants with 13 live rounds. Police also found a loaded Derringer with 5 live rounds in his pants pocket, along with a gram of suspected cocaine.

The armed violence charge, a Class X felony, is based on the discovery of a controlled substance, the prosecutor said.

The assistant public defender told the judge that Jacobs has a conceal-carry permit in Indiana, which he is required to surrender, along any other weapons and FOID card, while the case is pending. He also has a bad heart and a pacemaker.

Jacobs was released on a $10,000 I-bond. He’s due back in court Feb. 9 in Markham.
