ISBE Recognizes OFHS Group with an Award of Excellence
Illinois State Board of Education will present 'Those Who Excel' Award to Oak Forest HS Staff

On October 25 the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) will present its “Those Who Excel” Award to a group of staff members from Oak Forest High School. The group, referred to as the “Awesome for Autism Team,” will receive an Award of Excellence from ISBE.
Mrs. Kristine Kalnins nominated the team for providing her son, Mason, with a positive transition into high school during the 2013-14 school year. Her main concerns at the beginning of the school year included staff support, acceptance by peers, and advancement educationally and socially. Mrs. Kalnins said, “Not only did the team work with Mason to assist throughout the school day, they were available 24/7 to help (our family) in any way possible.” She was beyond happy when Mason joined the Cross Country Team and attended many social functions.
In her nomination, Mrs. Kalnins described the “Awesome for Autism Team” as amazing, awesome, phenomenal, unbelievable, and the best! Superintendent Kendall also referred to the team as dedicated, bright and committed. He stated, “I am proud that they represent not only Oak Forest High School but all of Bremen Community High School District 228.”
