Lansing Man, 24, Arrested After Stolen Gun Found During Midlothian Traffic Stop: Sheriff

MIDLOTHIAN, IL — A Lansing man faces a weapon charge after Cook County Sheriff's police found a stolen gun in his vehicle during a traffic stop in Midlothian, authorities said.

At approximately 10:40 p.m. on July 27, Organized Crime Division investigators stopped a Cadillac XT5 in 3900 block of 145th Street for expired registration. They also learned the driver, 24-year-old Jeonni Cunningham of Lansing, had restricted driving privileges that prohibit him from driving at night, the sheriff's office said.

Investigators asked Cunningham out of the vehicle and as he got out, saw a bag of what appeared to be cannabis in the driver’s side door panel. Investigators conducted a drug investigation and searched the vehicle. They found a loaded firearm in addition to the suspect cannabis, the sheriff's office said.

Cunningham did not have a FOID or a concealed carry license and was taken into custody. Investigators also learned the recovered gun was reported stolen from Calhoun County.

Cunningham was charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a firearm.

On July 28, Cunningham attended his first appearance hearing at the Markham Courthouse, where he was ordered to the Chief Judge’s pretrial electronic monitoring program and is prohibited from leaving his home at night.
