'Mama, I've Been Shot:' Mom Finds Son, Young Mother Gunned Down in Driveway
A 19-year-old mother is dead, and a 25-year-old man was hospitalized after both were shot at close range outside a Dolton home.

A mother who answered a ring at her door opened it to find her son riddled with gunshots, his girlfriend fatally shot in the front seat of a car in the driveway.
Brendan Hudson, 25, and DeArrea Haymond, 19, were shot at close range while sitting inside a car Thursday evening. Haymond, a mother to a 2-year-old girl, died at the scene.

The two were in the driveway of the Hudson’s family home near East 153rd and Irving Avenue in Dolton when shots rang out. Hudson’s mother Colleen said she heard her doorbell around 7:30 p.m., and opened the door to find her son splayed on the ground, hit by multiple bullets including to the side of his head, stomach and knee.
“Mama, I’ve been shot,” he told her.

Family described Haymond as a devoted mother to working to support her child while also aiming to attain her GED.
Hudson, 25, was taken to Cook County’s Stroger Hospital, where he underwent surgery overnight. His condition is stable and he is expected to recover.
“I’m feeling terrible,” Colleen Hudson told NBC. “I’m feeling so bad for that mother that lost her child. Oh my God.”
Dolton police worked the scene until 5 a.m., finding at least two dozen shell casings. Police said it appears three shots were fired directly into the passenger- and driver’s side windows.
South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force and Cook County Sheriff’s Department are assisting in the investigation.
