Midlothian Man Fatally Struck by Car

The man stepped off a curb and was struck by a car on 147th Street Saturday.

A Midlothian man was killed Saturday when he was hit by a car on 147th Street near Turner Avenue.

Andrew Jenkins, 56, of the 14600 block of Keystone Avenue, was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead, Daily Southtown reports.

The driver of the car that struck Jenkins told police she did not see the man until it was too late, and swerved to avoid hitting him. The 34-year-old Chicago woman said the man hit the front bumper and was thrown onto the windshield.

Witnesses told police it appeared the driver did not have time to stop after the pedestrian left the curb unexpectedly. Midlothian police are investigating.
