Millikin University Jazz Band Performs at Bremen HS
Bremen HS alum Dakari Bass is a member of the Millikin Jazz Band
The Millikin University Jazz Band I performed for music ensemble students at Bremen High School recently. Bremen students were treated to a wide array of contemporary and traditional jazz arrangements, including some by Stan Kenton, Thad Jones, Dave Holland, and Bill Holman. “The music alone was amazing, but what made the concert extra-special was Bremen alum Dakari Bass,Class of 2015, played bass trombone in the Millikin Jazz Band,” said Bremen High School Band Director Mr. Ben Salgado. Bass is a music education major at Millikin University; while at Bremen he performed in the band, choir, and on stage in both plays and musicals. He was a recipient of the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award and the Eleanor C. Ferraro Scholarship for Fine Arts. Bremen Band & Choir Director Mr. Salgado had this to say about Dakari, “Dakari has joined a growing number of students from Bremen H.S. that are studying fine arts in college. He’s a fine trombonist that is working hard at his goal of becoming a music educator. It was great to hear him performing with a collegiate ensemble at such a high level. I’m proud of Dakari and I'm looking forward to hearing him play again soon!”
