Oak Forest Band Learns from Clarinetist of U.S. Marine Band

On February 23, the Oak Forest High School Symphonic Band enjoyed learning from Tyler Hsieh, a clarinetist in "The President's Own" United States Marine Band.

Mr. Hsieh is a graduate of UCLA and The Manhattan School of Music. He began the class with his background and some personal history including trials and tribulations through his undergraduate career and how he got to be where he is now.

He then gave advanced practice techniques for the young musicians.

This valuable insight included strong fundamentals, establishing warm-up routines, the importance of listening skills, auditioning practices, and how to use technology to discover deficiencies as a player.

Mr. Hsieh also shared his own 29-40 day practice log as well as other methods on how to practice music at a slower tempo and learn to gradually increase.
