Oak Forest Braces For Potential Significant Winter Storm
Oak Forest Police Department will serve as warming center, if needed. Plows are ready. No parking in street after 2 inches of snow.
OAK FOREST, IL — Oak Forest officials are preparing to face potentially treacherous winter weather, as a winter storm warning has kicked into effect across Chicagoland.
Winter storm watches have shifted earlier in some places as the "significant winter storm" approaches, according to the National Weather Service.
Oak Forest Police Chief Jason Reid urges residents to stay indoors Thursday and Friday, as temps could drop dangerously low amid predicted heavy snowfall.

"Weather conditions as of now are appearing to be blizzard-like and the risk to safety when outdoors is very high," Reid said.
Residents are urged to check on elderly or disabled neighbors. The Oak Forest Police Department, 15440 Central Ave., will serve as a warming center if needed.

"The police department lobby is open 24 hours a day, and we will do our best to accommodate those in need," Reid said.
Residents should expect delayed response times for emergency calls during the storm, Reid cautioned.
"Public Works has its plows and drivers ready for this prolonged winter weather event," Reid told Patch. "The police department shifts are staffed adequately and if there is a need to have more staffing, we will hold shifts over."
Residents are reminded to keep streets clear for snow plows. Parking is not allowed on city streets at any time within 12 hours after a snowfall of 2 inches or more has occurred. The city can tow any vehicle that obstructs the route of snow plows.
