Event organizers from the SEA Blue Prostate Cancer Walk/Run announce that team fundraising will end on October 31, 2013.  A little over one month ago, more than 1,400 prostate cancer survivors, family members, friends, caregivers and medical professionals participated in the 9th annual SEA Blue Prostate Cancer Walk/Run in Lincoln Park.  The 2013 event, which has raised over $340,000 to date, funds important prostate cancer education, programs and resources.  Hoping to reach their original goal of $400,000, event organizers are stressing the importance of making that final donation to help ensure necessary programs and resources. Donations are being accepted at www.seablueprostatewalk.org, and progress can be followed on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/SEABlueProstate and Twitter at http://twitter.com/SEABlueWalk3K.

“Awareness about prostate cancer needs to be elevated so that survivors and their families know where to turn for resources after diagnosis,” said Pamela Reiss, executive director of Wellness Place, located in Palatine, Ill.  The SEA Blue Prostate Cancer Walk/Run is a joint collaboration among three organizations, Wellness Place cancer education and support, Us TOO International, headquartered in Downers Grove, Ill., and UroPartners of the Glen, located in Glenview, Ill.

“For nine years, this event has helped us communicate the urgent message that support, education and advocacy are available and accessible through organizations like Us TOO International and Wellness Place,”   said Tom Kirk, president and CEO of Us TOO International.  According to Kirk, the blue ribbon is the recognized symbol for prostate cancer awareness, and SEA is an acronym for the event’s goal to raise funds to Support, Educate and Advocate for survivors and families in the fight against prostate cancer.

Corporate supporters for the event include Dendreon, Medivation/Astellas, Sage Products, Abbvie, Novartis, UroPartners and Bayer Healthcare.
