Oak Forest Farmers Market Closes

Lack of a strong customer base throughout season reason for decision to close Saturday Farmers Market.

OAK FOREST, IL - The Oak Forest Farmers Market has been closed.

The Oak Forest City Council decided earlier this week to close the market indefinitely, citing a non-consistent customer base for the reason to close.

"Unfortunately, we could not maintain a strong customer base throughout the season and, as a result, lost several vendors during the 2016 season," a statement on the city website reads. "We sincerely appreciate the customers and vendors who have supported our market throughout the years."

The market was a regular event near 156th and Cicero from May 28 to Oct. 1. It provided "the best selection of fruits, vegetables, fresh flowers, and home decor," according to a description on its Facebook page.

Health screenings, culinary demos and story time for kids were among the market's weekly features.
