Oak Forest & Hillcrest DECA Chapters Attend White Sox Career Day

Chicago White Sox Marketing Team speaks to students

Recently, the Hillcrest High School DECA Chapter, joined by the Oak Forest DECA Chapter, attended the Illinois Federation of Marketing’s annual White Sox Career Day. Several members of the Chicago White Sox Marketing Team conversed with students from several high schools about a future with a professional athletic team and how they secured their positions with the Chicago White Sox. The Marketing Team covered topics such as engaging in multiple internships during college and networking both socially and professionally to meet people in various industries. One student asked if it truly mattered about the name and prestige of the college attended; the consensus from the panel was no, what really matters is how you present yourself and how you network both in person and through online mediums.

Junior and first year DECA student Jibril Hughes excitedly exclaimed that he was glad to understand more about the professional networking process. “I plan on utilizing the networking process in my attempt to get into internships and the gaming industry when I am done with college. I hope to attend the spring seminar to learn more as I move forward.”

Following the career seminar, DECA members enjoyed an exciting game with an added bonus of post-game fireworks!
