Oak Forest HS announces Entrepreneurship Trade Show Winners

Students presented products as if they were at a trade show

Congratulations to the Oak Forest High School 2016 Entrepreneurship Trade Show winners. Uriel Chavez (1st Place - Oreos Presentation), Spencer Howell (2nd Place - Pittsburg Tools Presentation), Matt Misheck (3rd Place - Trump Apparel Presentation), Viviana Frias (4th Place - Calvin Klein Presentation) and Luay Abdallah (5th place, Rolex Presentation). OFHS Entrepreneurship teacher Jim Matlon was very proud of these winning trade show presenters.

In the trade show presentation, students reenacted what a trade show would be like. Each student picked a product and then presented it to a visiting class of students as if they were at a trade show. In essence, they pitched their product to each visiting class member. Senior Spencer Howell chose Pittsburg Tools. He said, “I like the tools. They have a wide variety of them and they can be found at the Harbor Freight.” Spencer has a small woodworking business making small vanity items like chessboards, stools and other things and has a woodworking shop in his garage so he knows the product he was pitching very well.

Senior Viviana Frias chose the product of Calvin Klein because she likes their products. Her approach to the trade show pitch was to cover the history of the Calvin Klein brand and their attention to quality. “Why did I choose Calvin Klein? I think the ads are cool and he has nice things,” Frias said.

Uriel Chavez had a popular pitch item with his first place Oreo product pitch. He enjoyed making the posters that displayed fun types of Oreos that one can purchase, like fried chicken Oreos, lemonade Oreos, and cupcake flavored Oreos. Some of these flavors made trade show visitors laugh. What reeled in his audience, however, was the free samples of Oreos he gave away with every pitch. Chavez learned a valuable lesson, however, He said, “I learned to be friendly and have a smile for everyone.”
