Oak Forest High School Student Council Advisor Amy Bertrand, along with the Oak Forest High School Student Council, has announced the exciting events coming to all present and past Oak Forest High School Bengals during this year’s Homecoming week, September 18-22.
Homecoming Spirit Week kicks off with Class Color day. Seniors wear black, Juniors wear white, Sophomores wear blue, and Freshmen wear red to show off their Bengal pride. Faculty even can show off their Bengal pride with tie-dyed shirts!
On Tuesday, students will be working hard on Homecoming hall decorations each in a “Be Our Guest” Disney theme. Hall decorations represent a lot of time and effort and students really throw themselves into their given theme and will be working hard late into the evening to prepare for the next day’s voting by the faculty for the best hall decorations. The Spirit Week dress theme for Tuesday is Sleeping Beauty Day. In other words, students should wear their PJs to school to show their Bengal pride!
On Wednesday, the Spirit week theme is Monster University and students should show their Bengal spirit by wearing college wear. Hall decorations will be judged that day and the winners will be announced at the Homecoming Assembly, held on Friday. Also on Wednesday, students will compete in the traditional clash of the classes: The Powder Puff Game. The Powder Puff Game will be held on the football field at 6:30 pm.
Thursday the Spirit week theme is Ohana! Students should wear Hawaiian shirts to display their Bengal pride. A very important ceremony also happens on Thursday: The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in the Instructional Materials Center. This year, Oak Forest Mayor Hank Kuspa and OF Class of 1987 Alumni, Joliet Mayor Bob O’dekirk will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in the Spirit of Oak Forest and the Pride of Oak Forest categories.
Friday is the day of the big football game! During school, students will show their Bengal spirit by dressing in Black and Gold and participating in an awesome pep assembly in which the Homecoming King and Queen are announced. After the assembly is over, students will get ready for the Homecoming Parade which starts at 4 pm. The game starts immediately after that with the sophomore game starting at 5 pm and the varsity game starting at 7 pm.
The week culminates in the Homecoming Dance on Saturday. It is exciting to see students decked out in their formal attire. The dance takes place from 7 pm to 10 pm and pictures start at 6:30 pm.
We are all looking forward to the exciting events in the “Be Our Guest” Homecoming!
