Oak Forest HS Celebrates Mexican Independence Day

One highlight of the program was learning popular dances

The Oak Forest High School Hispanic Club presented a program to all the students in the world language and ELL programs. The program was called “Viva Mexico: Lindo y Querido” and it celebrated Mexican Independence Day. In the program, various heroes of the Mexican Independence movement were introduced like Padre Hidalgo, who fought for independence from Spain, and Padre Morelos, who took up the fight after Padre Hidalgo was killed. Students also explained the various symbols of the Mexican flag. A highlight of the presentation was the dance portion. Hispanic Club students selected volunteers from the audience to learn popular dances, such as the bachata, cumbia and merengue. The Hispanic Club is sponsored by Oak Forest High School teacher Ms. Danica Mathis.
