Oak Forest HS Concert Choir Performs at Carthage College

Their performance was part of the Lakeside Choral Festival

The Oak Forest High School Concert Choir took their love of singing on the road recently along with Vocal Director Mr. Victor Pazik. The Concert Choir performed at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin as a part of the Lakeside Choral Festival. While at Carthage College, the students had the opportunity to take a tour of the campus and listen to some of the amazing choirs throughout the area that were also participating in the Festival. As a part of the Lakeside Choral Festival, each school was able to meet with a choral director to get feedback on how they could improve. The OFHS Concert Choir had the privilege of working with Dr. Shapovalov, who taught the students some vocal techniques to help improve their blend and tone. "It was a great experience!" said Choir member Amanda Blasco. "I think we all benefit from watching others perform. There's just something so special about this department! It's not often you see a bus full of teenagers break out into song [on the way home]. It was truly a touching moment." According to Victor Pazik, the students gained a great perspective on choral tone and blend. He said, “The men specifically are a young group and Dr. Shapovalov worked with them on support, blend, and a warm resonating tone. As a whole, the students were able to hear a variety of choirs who were simply amazing! Like Amanda, I was extremely impressed on the whole day and enjoyed the ride home as the students broke out in song of choral numbers from this year and years past. It was pretty cool! Go Bengals!”
