Oak Forest HS Culinary Arts Students Enjoy Crepes

Students learned to make crepes as part of the breakfast unit

Oak Forest High School Senior Drew Hill and Junior Josh Chambers prepare their ingredients to get ready to assemble homemade crepes, as a part of a breakfast unit. The boys are part of a Family and Consumer Sciences class called Culinary Arts, taught by Oak Forest High School teacher Vicky Vogel. According to Vogel, the ingredients that the students were using to build their crepe masterpieces were “Nutella, caramel, chocolate, strawberries, powdered sugar, and bananas.” This was both boys’ first time at making crepes. Hill said that “crepes were easy like pancakes, but thinner.” This is Hill’s second year in cooking classes. “I wanted to get a better feel for cooking on my own,” he said. He filled his crepes with chocolate, whipped cream and showered it with powdered sugar. Chambers said he filled his with chocolate chips. “They tasted great!” he said.
