Oak Forest HS Culinary Students Create the Perfect Cupcake

Students worked in teams to create, bake, and frost the cupcakes

Oak Forest High School students in Culinary Class recently worked diligently on delicious chocolate cupcakes topped with vanilla and chocolate frosting. “Students were re-creating a lab they enjoyed by baking for the whole class,” said Culinary Class teacher Vicky Vogel. “In this lab, we were focusing on time management, skills we have learned, and their culinary knowledge as we created the perfect cupcake. OFHS Sophomore Victoria Rivera worked with Junior Jessica Boger in filling the frosting bags prior to piping the frosting onto the warm cupcakes. These two girls are part of the team who worked on the chocolate cupcakes. Victoria said, “We had to work in teams efficiently so we could finish on time.” The other half of the team, Junior Therese Maramot and Sophomore Haylie Valenzuela put finishing touches on the cupcakes after they are frosted. Haylie said, “Time management was important because we had to finish in time for everyone in the class to eat them.” For this particular project, the girls had two favorite things. First, Therese said, “I liked working with the team.” When time efficiency and accuracy in baking is at stake, a cooperative team is very important. Second, Jessica said, “I liked piping the frosting. We cut the bags and then made strips of vanilla frosting intermixed with pink frosting and then covered with colorful candy sprinkles.” Students in the Culinary Class really enjoyed eating the team’s efforts in the kitchen. Great work, girls!
