Oak Forest HS Journalism Team Competes at State

Three Oak Forest High School Journalism students competed at the IHSA State Journalism Tournament, held at Eastern Illinois University. Advancing to the State Tournament, with the following Sectional wins, were: Carey Dwyer, Third Place in Feature Writing; Ethan Mensing, Third Place in Broadcast News; and Jessica Velasquez, Second Place in Yearbook Caption Writing. Hadeel Hasan placed second in Infographics, but could not compete in the State Competition. This is the tenth time that the Journalism Team has competed in the State Competition.

The following students placed in Sectional Competition, but did not advance to State: Qamar Saleh, Sixth Place in Feature Photography; Bailey Maurer, Sixth Place in Yearbook Layout; Jessica Velasquez, Fifth Place in Yearbook Copy Writing; and Amanda Beall, Fourth Place in Copy Editing.

Journalism Team members are: Qamar Saleh, Hadeel Hasan, Lana Abdallah, Ethan Mensing, Carey Dwyer, Bailey Maurer, Jessica Velasquez and Amanda Beall.  Ms. Kate Vana and Ms. Patty Carlson are the Yearbook Sponsors of the Journalism Team and Mr. Kevin Farrell and Mr. Jim Matlon are the Newspaper Sponsors of the Journalism Team.
