Oak Forest HS Journalism Team Members Advance to State

Four members of the Journalism Team will be competing at Eastern Illinois University

Four Oak Forest High School Journalism Team members advanced to state after competing at the IHSA Journalism Sectionals at Morraine Valley Community College. Advancing to the State Tournament at Eastern Illinois University are: Ethan Mensing (placed 1st in Broadcast News), Danielle Murawski (placed 3rd in News Writing), Amanda Beall (placed 1st in Copy Editing), and Jessica Velazquez (placed 4th in Yearbook Layout). Other Oak Forest High School students also took home prizes at the Sectional competition. Alyssa Velazquez placed 6th in Yearbook Caption Writing, Matt Donley placed 5th in Review Writing, and Amanda Ashmore and Jessica Velazquez placed 4th in Yearbook Theme Development. As a team, Oak Forest placed 5th in our Sectional! This is the 11th time that the Journalism team has competed in the Sectional Competition and sent candidates down to the State Competition.

Kate Vana and Patty Carlson are the Yearbook Sponsors of the Journalism team and Kevin Farrell and Jim Matlon are the Newspaper Sponsors of the Journalism team.
